A Traders Pit Pre-disposition Most of us have heard of, or maybe even seen a trading pit in action. This is a story of a traders pit. Our story is about a young woman who had been sheltered by her family from many of the normal experiences of life. Her father was a fire and brimstone preacher at his local rural church and had impressed on his daughter the joys of heaven and the horrors of the 'pit' of hell. As one of many clients generating much commission, she had been invited by her broker to attend, as part of a group of such clients, a play at a London Theatre and dinner afterwards. Never having been to London, let alone a theatre before, she was overwhelmed by the exaggerated decorations of the foyer. While waiting with her fellow clients for her host to collect the tickets, she was further bewildered by the throng of brightly dressed and highly animated theatre-goers - all things without her prior rural experience. Then she saw a sign to the orchestra stalls indicated as "The Pit". Our trader gave a scream of horror, fled from the theatre to seek comfort in the more ordinary streets outside and to pray and seek forgiveness of the Lord. Lessons Learnt While we laugh at her, we are also laughing at ourselves. For we all have a prejudice or pre-disposition to cower in fear of our personal trading demons. Our demons might be different or the same, but exist they do, to some degree - to be evoked when we least expect them - and to control our behaviour in the background.
