Position size is the 'how big' of trading; be it how many shares or contracts should be traded for your trading system, preferred trading instruments, chosen trading vehicles, trading skill, personal preference and account size? A common enough query boils down to "When and how do I increase the position size I trade in?" There are as many answers as there are traders. For some it there is a psychological block to trading at a higher position size; for others it is a question of what basis should be used for the decision. Both categories of trader could benefit from knowing their risk of ruin. For when you know your risk of ruin your confidence increases and the maximum position size you can trade consistent with your preferred risk of ruin is determined for you. Thus a significant part of the answer just requires some good old fashioned effort. Few traders bother to determine their risk of ruin.
